THE

JOURNAL

As I sat in my office last week sipping on a fresh pot of coffee I thought about our business and how far it’s come in just the last year. Matt and I have been so fortunate to meet and work with so many amazing people and couples over the course of starting this business. When I made the choice to step out of graduate school and pursue photography instead of art therapy, I thought it was a shallow dream. But through a lot of prayer and searching my dream became a reality and not only a dream for myself but one both Matt and I share.

There is no one I’d rather be doing this with than him. Photographing couples helps breath life into our marriage and reminds us constantly of our beginning and the love we share. I can only pray that when our couples hit rough patches that they can look their their images and remember where they started and what brought them together. That’s our main goal; to provide our clients with tangible memories of their love and devotion to one another.

We pride ourselves on the connections we make with our clients and I want us to carry that over to the next year. I thought long and hard about goals for SLP. Things that we did right and things that we want to do better or differently.  I want us to lose our heads in the clouds and dream big. We are still working through our vision for this business but a few goals that I’ve come up with are:

*Shoot film. – I learned photography on film, in the dark room and I want to rekindle that love and shoot more film.

*Have an client meeting space – This one is almost finished. We moved into a new house and our dining room has become my office. I now have chairs and a coffee table so that we can meet with our clients in our home so they feel more like family.

*Re-brand – this one is also almost finished but has been a goal for a while. Neither of us felt like the branding we had before reflected our style and it’s starting to take shape and feel more like us.

*Bi-weekly meetings – Matt and I want to meet twice a month to discuss financials, techniques, and all things business related. Sometimes it’s hard to just sit down and go through it all, but it’s something we need to be better about.

*Fall back in love with the art of photography- We are artists and sometimes we lose sight of that and take the same shots over and over. I want us to stretch ourselves and view each image as a piece of art.

*Education – I went to WPPI last year and another business workshop. I want Matt and I both to watch Creative Lives together or attend a workshop together. I never want to stop learning.

Those are just a few of the goals that I came up with, but I know more will be added to the list.
