I started my blog back in 2010 when I really began getting into wedding and portrait photography. I didn’t feel the need to have a full website because, at the time, I was 2nd shooting for my dear friend Jerusha of Pfanntastic Photography. Not that I think if you’re a 2nd that you shouldn’t have a website, because actually I do, but I was new to the business and didn’t think it was necessary for me. I didn’t know who I was as a photographer or where I wanted this to take me.
Fast forward to June 2013. Matt and I moved to Charlotte, NC and I decided that it was time to take the leap and start my business. It’s been a rocky year but I have received so much love and support and have grown quite a bit just in the last 14 months! One thing that really kicked my butt and helped me start really taking this business seriously was ReSTARt. What is ReSTARt you ask…well it was an amazing three month Creative Live course put on by one of my fav photographers, Jasmine Star. It was all about restarting our business and making it reflect who we are. Each month we were given goals to meet and were challenged to define what want we want our brand to represent and who we want to market to.
Another part of the ReSTARt program was to develop a website. I think that it really is important to have a website; a landing page for potential clients to come to and get a good sense of who you are. I was really excited to get working on my website and decided to go with Showit to create it. I highly recommend Showit. It’s very easy to use and you can hire one of their talented designers or you can create it yourself which is what I opted to do. It took me a few months to figure out how I wanted it to look and how I wanted potential clients to navigate through the site. I wanted them to learn more about Matt and I and the experience that we provide for both portrait sessions and weddings. I wanted it to be clean and classy which is how I shoot, edit and even dress!
