Happy Monday! It’s always hard to come back from a great weekend and start the work week. We just spent this past weekend in Savannah visiting good friends and having a blast! Savannah is one of my favorite places to visit. My friends and I used to go there often for spring break during college, so it brings back great memories! Ok, now on to today’s Monday Moment!

We are talking engagement sessions today; one of our favorite things to do! A lot of people only view engagement sessions as “save the dates” but they are so much more. We strongly encourage all of our couples to have an engagement session with us which is why we offer it complimentary within our Wedding Collection.

We view engagement sessions as a relationship building session. We want to spend time with just the two of you to get to know you, for you to get to know us, and for us to see the two of you together; to see your relationship dynamic. Some couples are more mushy than others, so it’s important for us to see what poses work and which ones don’t. We want you to be comfortable with us so that on your wedding day you aren’t nervous about having your photos taken and you can just be in the moment and celebrate. I don’t know how many times we meet a couple for an engagement session, one or both are extremely nervous or shy, but by the end they tell us how fun and not scary it was. We want to do what we can to eliminate as much nervousness as possible to make your wedding day go smoothly.

Our engagement sessions are a little over an hour and we love doing them right before sunset or right after sunrise to get that gorgeous golden light. We are always up for picking great new locations but if there is one that is special to the two of you then we highly suggested having your session there! We want to capture your relationship and the love that the two of you share, so if a location means a lot or there are some props that are special, then that is going to help tell your story all the better!

As far as what to wear goes, we always suggest, that if you’re up for it, have your makeup done for the session. It’s a great trial for your wedding day and it shows up so creamy on camera! We have several talented makeup artists that we would love to recommend! We encourage our couples to stay away from thin stripes, tiny prints, and colors in the orange/red family as it’s hard for the camera to pick up on those things. We also don’t suggest that you wear something too matchy. Just select colors that mesh well together and flatter both of you. Maybe one of you will wear a bright color or pattern while the other is more muted. Feel free to mix patters as long as the dominant color in both remains the same. It’s always great to add some texture with maybe a scarf or necklace; don’t be afraid to mix things up!

Now go out there an have an amazing engagement session!
